What is Dry Needling?

osteopathy

Myofascial dry needling is becoming a very commonly used technique as a supplement to osteopathic treatment approaches.

Dry needling utilises a solid filament as used in acupuncture. This needle is inserted into the trigger points in the body to elicit a neurological response that achieves muscle relaxation. It is often used in areas of tight muscle that is not responding well or quickly to conventional osteopathic techniques. It may also be used in areas of muscle weakness to stimulate the region and restore muscles to health.

Whilst dry needling is a very safe technique in trained hands, it is important to understand that :

  • You are under no obligation to agree to dry needling. It is your choice
  • There is no additional cost for dry needling
  • You can stop the procedure at any time
  • Only new needles are used and no needles are ever shared
